Making Links Accessible
Common Problems
- Vague link text: Click here tells users nothing
Fix: View pricing plans instead
- Images as links: Alt text should describe the destination
Example: alt="AccessCheck home page"
- Opening new windows: Tell users what will happen
Add (opens in new tab) to the link text
Good Link Text
- Makes sense out of context
- Describes what users will find
- Is concise (2-5 words)
- Is unique (no duplicate text for different destinations)
Keyboard Navigation
Users must be able to:
- Reach all links using Tab key
- Activate links using Enter key
- See a visible focus indicator
